BACKGROUND
Friends who know me knows that I am very proud of my heritage. I'm a Malaysian Chinese with a Hakka-speaking ancestry. I am fluent in English, Malay, Mandarin Chinese, Cantonese, and Hakka as I grew up learning and speaking in these languages on a daily basis.
When it comes to my life motto, it may be cheesy but definitely: work hard, play hard. My peers have commonly branded me a workaholic, as I would indulge fully into a project to see it until its completion. I deem myself hard working, not afraid of new tasks, and also in being blunt. In my personal life, I love taking weekend trips and small road trips here and there to spice life up. As a newcomer in Wisconsin, I definitely have lots to explore.
For those who wonder a little more about my home country, Malaysia is a wonderfully young country located in South East Asia. Our culture is very diverse as Malaysians are made up of descendants from Malay, Chinese, Indian, Portuguese, British, and indigenous people. Hence, a profusion of faiths and religions, with Islam, Christianity, Buddhism, Taoism, Hinduism, Sikhism and even shamanism are found in our country.
Malaysians share the love in food. Malaysian food is heavily influenced by Thai, Chinese, Indonesian and Indian cuisine. If you must try a Malaysian dish, it has to be Nasi Lemak! This dish is considered as our national dish—a little banana leaf parcel that cradles a bed of coconut rice with spicy sambal, crunchy dried anchovies (ikan bilis), roasted peanuts, cucumber, and egg (sometimes sliced of hard-boiled, sometimes cooked like a flat omelet). I could go on and on about our delicacies but atlas, this isn't a food blog.
Other than enjoying food, I find myself at bliss when I make them too! I frequently cook & bake new recipes and find inspirations from daily blogs and YouTube videos. I think the process of trying, failing, and trying again until there's success with recipes translates nicely to what I strive for in life. I am a person who is not afraid of the unknown, but rather afraid of the regret from never trying.
PS, If you ever want a jar of cookies, I can always hook you up!
